Daniel C. Barichello is in our Estate and Business Succession Services Group. The lawyers in this group help clients from varied backgrounds and at all stages of life, from business owners to new parents, to retiring couples, and more, create a comprehensive and tax efficient plan for the distribution of their assets on death. The lawyers in this group strive to educate our clients on the critical importance of having such a plan in place, especially for the surviving spouse and family members. We focus on long term estate planning, taking into account the reality that changes in family circumstances may require future changes to one's estate plan. This group also provides advice and support in estate administration matters, establishing family trusts, helping business owners with reorganizations, dealing with contentious issues in estate administration and all related proceedings. Focus of Practice
Since beginning private practice, Daniel has focused his attention on both succession planning (wills, trusts and estates law) and corporate law, and can offer a full range of services in either area. He is able to combine both practice skill sets to assist a business owner with creating a comprehensive business succession plan that incorporates both ,tax effective corporate reorganization and family succession issues. Daniel has become the trusted family advisor to many high net worth clients and business owners on both corporate and estate/succession matters.

- Individuals or families with cross-border estate concerns (such as property located in the US or abroad).
Engagements Include
- Providing estate planning advice and drafting wills and powers of attorney for individuals at all stages of life and advising when circumstances may require the revision of estate documents, including death, separation, divorce, change in employment status, change in health status, (of the client, beneficiary, or estate trustee), relocation to another jurisdiction, or acquiring foreign assets;
- Assisting clients with planning their estates to consider requirements of disabled children, disaffected children, elderly parents, children of previous marriages, and persons who may have or potentially have statutory claims against a clients estate;
- Advising business owners who wish to begin planning for retirement, whether that involves the preparation of the business for potential sale, or a succession of the business to a family member. This may also involve complex corporate restructuring for management and tax reduction purposes;
- Assisting estate beneficiaries who are unsure of their rights or may be dissatisfied with the administration of an estate;
- Mediating between estate beneficiaries or between an estate trustee and beneficiaries where there is a dispute regarding an estate matter, always with the goal of avoiding misunderstandings and preventing the need for litigation.
- Providing guidance and support to estate trustees named in a will, or appointed by the court, to ensure the smooth and proper administration of the estate and avoid problems.

- Associate and later Partner with Oakville firm Hanna Henderson Barichello from 1987 to 2000
- Maintained sole practice from 2000 until joining Keyser Mason Ball, LLP as a Partner in October 2011

- Planning and drafting comprehensive estate documentation for individuals and business owners at all stages of life, with a multitude of levels of net worth, including assets in multiple foreign jurisdictions.
- Incorporating practice corporations for medical or dental professionals and incorporating these corporations into an effective estate plan.
- Providing legal counsel and advice to estate trustees when administering estates both routine and those with intense family dysfunctions and tax complications.
- Advised recently separated clients regarding the crucial importance of updating beneficiary designations for life insurance and RRSPs and the importance of revoking prior will and preparing a new one without undue delay.
- Drafting wills with specialized provisions for disabled children, children with addiction issues, adult children suffering from their own marital difficulties, or elderly parents requiring ongoing care.
