COMPETITOR COLLABORATION – Amendments To The Competition Act
On March 12, 2010, the Competition Act amendments dealing with agreements between competitors came into force. Section 45 is intended to deal with conspiracies and cartels, the most egregious forms of competitor collaboration, and section 90.1 provides a civil review process for agreements that prevent or substantially lessen competition in the marketplace. These amendments allow for greater flexibility for legitimate collaboration.

Bill C-45 Is Alive In Ontario: Police Lay Criminal Code Charges Against Crane Operator And Crown Owner For Workplace Fatality
In a recent case in Sault Ste Marie the City Police have laid charges against a Crane Operator and the owner of the corporation under the Criminal Code. Since the amendments to the Criminal Code brought about by Bill C-45 in 2004, charges under the Criminal Code for serious occupational health and safety accidents have been extremely rare. However, this case is a reminder that both managerial employees and corporations (corporations are charged by the conduct of its managerial employees) can be charged with criminal negligence causing injury or death under the Criminal Code. Further, a conviction can attract a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for a fatality for an individual or a monetary fine with no cap for a corporation.

Investigating Workplace Complaints - Getting It Right
If you do it wrong, bad things can happen.
If you don't do it at all, things can get even more ugly.
Dealing with workplace complaints (including harassment) requires a methodical and reliable process in order to determine the nature of the problem, the prevalence of the problem, the scope of the problem and the perception of both management and employees of the issue. Once harassment or another workplace issue is identified, corrective action should be immediate, accessible to all and maintained vigilantly.
