What Are Your Obligations To Your Employees On Christmas and Boxing Day?
Christmas Day and Boxing Day are both classified as a “Public Holiday” pursuant to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 ("ESA"). This means that employees whose rights are protected under the ESA (federal employees and certain classes of provincial employees are exempted) are entitled to a day off from work on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and public holiday pay for those days.

Let’s Be Clear and Reasonable: Restrictive Covenants In Employment Agreements
A recent decision of the Ontario Court of Appeal reaffirms the trend of our Courts with respect to the interpretation and enforceability of restrictive clauses in employment agreements. In Mason v. Chem-Trend Limited Partnership, a 17-year employee was terminated allegedly for cause. This individual commenced a wrongful dismissal action.
