Ruben Goulart is a senior practitioner with particular expertise in the areas of management labour relations and Human Resources workplace law. His clients are comprised of large and mid-sized private companies, public companies and Canadian subsidiaries of Japanese and U.S. Fortune 1000 corporations.

Apart from his technical and management skill, Ruben is able to reduce the most intense and complicated legal matters to relevant and understandable management terms.

Ruben helps clients maximize their investment in their human resources by improving environment, process, policies and practices. As a result of his varied experience, he supports and proactively advises company owners and management on all aspects of Human Resources management and workplace law be it day to day operational questions or intricate and sensitive corporate strategic matters. He deals routinely with restructuring and corporate transactions, wrongful dismissal complaints and workers' compensation appeals, executive compensation and incentive arrangements, human rights and workplace accommodation complaints, employment contracts and workplace policies, workplace, wrongful dismissals, employment standards, occupational health and safety and privacy

Ruben is generally closely aligned with management and the decision making process at most of his clients. In instances where clients lack the internal HR capability, he acts as an outsourced management and legal resource.

A seasoned negotiator and shrewd strategist, Ruben has been a lead player in many labour disputes and frequently takes part in concluding collective agreements. He advises management on maintaining a union free environment, when a union is or may be organizing, the administration and enforcement of collective agreements, contract interpretation, and at all stages through a strike. He appears on behalf of management before employment tribunals, the Ontario Human Rights Commission, the labour board and boards of arbitration.

An increasingly requested aspect of Ruben’s practice is education, coaching and training programs for middle and senior management. This focus on improving employee productivity and performance includes guidance in all aspects of attracting, retaining and motivating employee and management talent and labour relations.

Ruben is as comfortable in a boardroom as he is on a shop floor.
