Simon R. Heath is a member of the Keyser Mason Ball LLP management labour relations and employment law group. He provides advice and representation to unionized and non-unionized clients in both the private and public sector that may have to comply with provincial or federal legislation.
Prior to joining Keyser Mason Ball LLP, Simon practiced labour, employment and human rights law exclusively as a Crown Counsel with the provincial Ministry of the Attorney General. In this role he assisted numerous Ministries and Crown Corporations in achieving strategic solutions to every aspect of labour and employment advice. In particular, he obtained invaluable experience representing the Crown in wrongful dismissals, human rights complaints, grievance arbitration, labour relations board proceedings and occupational health and safety complaints and prosecutions. Simon is also experienced in a number of types of alternative dispute resolution and will employ such tactics if and when a case requires it.
Simon provides well grounded advice and services with respect to all aspects of employment law including executive compensation arrangements, employment contracts and workplace policies, workplace restructuring and corporate transactions, wrongful dismissals, employment standards, occupational health and safety and privacy.
He is also experienced in all areas of labour relations from contract interpretation, ADR and litigating grievances to all labour board proceedings.
Due to his comprehensive experience in the dynamic field of human rights and accommodation in the workplace Simon takes the lead in the practice group and routinely advises unionized and non-unionized clients on these important and potentially disruptive workplace issues. He can help you address these when they arise and he can also walk you through the processes at the new Ontario Human Rights Tribunal or through grievance arbitration.
Simon is a seasoned lecturer and routinely speaks at CLE’s and in-house seminars on hot topics in labour, employment and human rights law. He is also widely published in periodicals and his legal research on the Wallace decision has been cited in the prestigious American Business Law Review.
Prior to practicing law Simon focused his education exclusively on labour and employment. He obtained a bachelors degree in Labour Management Relations from the University of Toronto and he also has a joint Masters of Industrial Relations and Law degree from Queen’s University.
