Typically, child support amounts for married or divorced couples in Ontario are determined using the Federal Child Support Tables.
The Federal Child Support Tables will change as of October 1, 2025. The Tables have been updated to reflect more recent tax rules and the increased cost of raising children. The changes are meant to ensure that child support amounts remain fair and are consistent with current economic realities.
All new orders made after October 1, 2025 will be made using the updated table amounts.
Existing orders will not change automatically. However, parents with an existing order may wish to review the new table amounts. If the new amounts are different, this may qualify as a material change in circumstances, which allows a party to apply for a variation of the original order. Parents with existing child support orders may wish to consult a lawyer about whether a variation application should be started.
Parents can use the Child Support Look-up Calculator to assist with determining child support amounts. The calculator will be using the new table amounts as of October 1, 2025.
