Colin Carruthers

Colin Carruthers is Head of Intellectual Property and a Partner at Keyser Mason Ball, LLP. He brings over a decade of intellectual property experience, having spent his career to date at a leading Toronto IP boutique, where he led the firm's trademark group. A registered Canadian trademark agent, Colin works with clients across a diverse range of industries to develop tailored strategies for trademark clearance, registration, enforcement, and licensing, helping clients build, protect, and defend their brands.

Colin's trademark practice is complemented by experience in copyright matters and broader intellectual property litigation. Brand protection is a natural extension of many of KMB's practice areas, and Colin works closely with colleagues across the firm, including its Franchise, Retail & Distribution Group, where trademark strategy plays a central role in how franchise systems build and safeguard brand value.

Colin's work extends beyond his day-to-day trademark practice. He has collaborated with OCAD University and the University of Windsor Faculty of Law on trademark education for creative entrepreneurs, reflecting his broader interest in IP education.

Outside the office, Colin is an avid sports fan and enjoys spending time on the golf course and with his family.
